Mayor's Favorite Foods

An interview with Cameron Smyth, Former Mayor of Santa Clarita

Interviewer: Mayor Smyth, if you had too choose, what are your favorite fruits?

Smyth: Though I enjoy eating different fruits because they taste great, and they are beneficial for nutrition, my favorite fruits are Bananas and Mangos.

Interviewer: All of the popular health magazines say that we should have five servings of vegetables each day. What vegetables do you like to eat?

Smyth: I am a big fan of vegetables and I try to eat the recommended five servings per day. Normally I like to eat a variety of vegetables including Broccoli, Asparagus and Carrots.

Interviewer: Many of us know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it’s a great way to kick off your day and gets your metabolism going. On a typical day, what do you eat for breakfast?

Smyth: That is true, it is very important to eat something for breakfast everyday. Normally I like to have cereal, yogurt and a healthy drink, like milk or juice.

Interviewer: Since you are a very busy person, what foods do you like when you’re on the go? Do you like fast foods, or fresh choices?

Smyth: I am definitely not a fast food person. When I find myself short on time or even if I am at home looking for something to eat, I will grab a sandwich on wheat bread, a pasta dish, sushi, a healthy salad or maybe a BBQ meal from a local restaurant or prepared on my home barbecue.

Interviewer: I have heard that having little snacks during the day is an important part of a balanced diet. What do you think about snacking and what items do you snack on?

Smyth: Healthy snacks can be a great way to keep your stomach from getting too hungry, or too full at the next meal. When looking for a snack, I like fruit smoothies and protein bars. And, on occasion, I have to cure my sweet tooth and munch on some cookies.
